The Pottery

Pottery fragments represent the most frequent category of materials found on the surface and in the archaeological layers. Uşaklı has yielded a very rich repertoire of pottery, with a few thousand diagnostic sherds. Apart from the earliest pieces, which are hand-made and date to the end of the Chalcolithic - Early Bronze Age, the best-documented categories are red-slip, common ware and painted ware, which date to the 2nd and 1st millennia. Many different types and surface treatments or decorations continued to be used over a long period, from the Middle to the Late Bronze Age or for much of the Iron Age.
